The New York Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District maintains two divisional offices and serves

Jurisdiction / Coverage - The Brooklyn Division and Central Islip Division have jurisdiction over the counties of Kings, Nassau,
Queens, Richmond and Suffolk County. In general, to qualify for filing, and individual must be a state resident for the preceding 180 days
and maintain a domicile within the county.
US citizenship is not required. Foreign citizens may qualify under jurisdictional rules based on property ownership in some circumstance.
The Eastern District supplies debtors with web access to petitions, schedules and related forms and

Daily operation and administration procedures for New
York Bankruptcy Courts are determined by the Administrative Office of US
Courts. The judicial power of Judges is determined by Federal Law, which
is derived primarily from the US Constitution and the US Code.
